In the following link you will find a story shown on Google news telling of how a healthy school boy was branded obese according to the BMI scale.
OBESE SCHOOL BOY
Many of you will have heard of the BMI (Body Mass Index) scale which is, according to our government ”Obesity is measured in terms of body mass index or BMI. BMI is a widely accepted measure of weight for height and is defined as weight (kg)/height (m2).”
It may be widely accepted, by the blind and down right fraudulent perhaps, or those with an agenda.
Saying that your weight and height determines your levels of body fat is akin to saying how much money is in a piggy bank by looking at the size of it - you simply can’t without knowing what is in it!
Forget about BMI, I promise you it is useless as an individual’s tool.
It maybe helpful to meta studies to find correlations in data for pathological populations but it just doesn’t cut it for individuals looking for some information to guide their healthy lifestyles.
If you really want to have some useful information to guide your weight management then see a Personal Trainer and have a body fat analysis carried out via skin fold measurements.
I am overweight and obese according to the BMI scale - I have a body fat of 12 percent!
