Muscles, hunger, food and the way it is

Good afternoon overweight people of the our planet.

Firstly I am going to say that just because the majority of people are too fat and that makes it normal, does not make it so that they are not fat.

What is considered normal by today’s standards would have been considered abnormal twenty years ago.

Can you pinch over an inch on your belly? Yes means you carry an unnecessary amount of body fat for health and no amount of jogging or cross training will change that.

Exercise burns so few calories it is hardly worth exercising for fat loss. So why should you exercise? Because is turns your body from a weak and jelly like state into a robust and useful state.

Useful in the sense that you no longer get so sick so often, colds are infrequent, energy levels are higher and moods are lighter more often. Sounds good so far, right? But wait, there’s more:

You will mutate from a body shaped by fat to a body shaped by functional and health promoting muscle - the tissue that makes our lives happen, that without, we would be immovable slinkies.

Our skeletal muscles hold our posture, they burn calories, they allow us to move with ease in ways that other animals simply can’t, they keep us injury free, alert and ready for action, they make us more attractive to the opposite sex, they elevate our confidence and thus our mood, our success, our outlook and define our quality of life. To neglect them is the slowest way to commit suicide.

Does jogging work our muscles, yes but not effectively and at what cost? next time you are out have a look and see how many people jogging you see that are wearing some form of joint support. Jogging works the cardiovascular system slightly and the skeletal muscles slightly and works your cartilage too. In fact it works your cartilage so well that it soon becomes over worked and simply cannot recover in time between jogging sessions so soon breaks down and becomes painful, very painful and quickly too.

So jogging works different parts of the body at different rates and soon destroys the cartilage of the knees, ankles and hips. Nice work 1970′s jogging mania.

There is simply only one way to ensure your skeletal muscles are worked without degrading joint health - lift weights. Nothing else comes close.

All that is good and well but what about the layers of body fat covering your shapely and sexy muscles? Food intake is the only way to out that fat. Eat less than you burn and you’ll lose it. Slowly. THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

That hungry feeling you get each time you snack: embrace it. It is your body looking for fuel and each time you snack stops the body from using fat stores as fuel. NO SNACKS. Just proper meals. Burn fat for fuel not food.

It took years to build up that body fat so expect a good few months of hard training and regimented eating habits to strip it all away again. A bottle of wine a night won’t allow it to happen. Liquids have calories too.

To sum up:

Eat less, lift weights, have patience.

Food is not a luxury for overweight people - it is simply fuel that must be restricted.
