What is your body worth?

Sat ,07/11/2009

Thinking about Personal Training with me here in Epsom but perhaps feel you cant afford it?

Can you afford not to should be the question!

How much more would you be able to accomplish with your day if you were strong, fit and healthy. If you were full of energy and had a more inspired and positive perspective on the world.

If you feel confident in your body imagine how confident you’ll feel in the workplace and in life, you could be unstoppable.

How many more people could you speak with, how much more effective could you be in your day, how much time could you save - how much further ahead from the field could you stride?

To complete a tough physical task will give you mental tenacity like few other things in life will. if you are strong enough in the gym to push through your fears and doubts, the cross over it has in everyday life is outstanding. You can overcome anything life throws at because your body is strong. A strong body houses a strong mind.

Strengthen your body to strengthen your mind and in turn your life. Become more successsful in all you do.

Call me, your Epsom Personal Trainer today and arrange your free consultation. TAKE ACTION and build MOMENTUM toward a new stronger, better you!

The fat loss success of my clients

Thu ,05/11/2009

Some people hire a Personal Trainer and get awesome results, some people don’t.

I will now let you in on the not so secret to their success;

If you have a goal to lose excess body fat you have and start on a good exercise programme on your own or with a qualified and experienced Personal Trainer (Epsom Personal Trainer) I first want to say congratulations! You are way ahead of the field and deserve to have great success. It is only half the story.

If you are like many of the people that start exercising you will be disappointed with your results if you rely solely on the exercise to lose body fat. Why? Because exercise alone is not a particularly effective way of burning calories - sure it can re shape your body and help you burn more calories every day but……

without a calorie restriction, a real one, then you’re efforts may just be in vain.

The most successful fat loss clients of mine ALL watch their calorie intake and make sure they don’t go over the specified amount.

That bears repeating They ALL watch their calorie intake!

Are you really getting the results you want from simply exercising?

Improve your sports performance - get stronger

Wed ,04/11/2009

Imagine your body as a series of links in a chain - if you have one weak link you simply wont perform as well as you could.

“You’re only as strong as your weakest link” - tis true.

Squash, golf, football and many others. They will all be improved if you pay attention to your body as a whole.

I trained a semi professional cyclist who had been struggling for two seasons to bump himself up the rankings. After just 2 months he had moved up an entire class and was keeping up with riders 10 years younger than him. Not bad for two half hour sessions a week.

Did I improve his cardiovascular conditioning - hell no -his bike riding was plenty of cardio training for him. I did pay particular attention to making certain parts of his body chain allot stronger.

The stronger I made him, the less effort each pedal stroke took away from him. He rode more efficiently and still had juice to spare at the end.

Getting stronger without getting bigger will make all sports people better. Try it and blow your current competition out the water.

Argh…..”cardio”

Sun ,01/11/2009

Hoorah another mistaken belief. Time and time again I hear and see written questions and statements about “cardio”;

“How much cardio should I do?”

“I run for 45 minutes a day for cardio”

“You have to be on the crosstrainer for at least 30 mintes to burn any fat”

“I am in the fat burning zone on the treadmill”

PUUUHHLLEASE

Cardio= anything that raises your heart rate above a certain point, not mandatorily in the “cardio” section of the gym. Squat your bodyweight for 5 minutes as fast as you can and tell me it’s not cardio.

As for the length of “cardio” needed for health. Very little. Get your heart rate above 160 for 10 minutes and you’ll be as healthy as you’re ever going to be or have been. NOT EVERY DAY either - give it a rest let your heart heal.

Minimal impact cardio can be done with weighted exercises performed correctly with little rest. All the benefits of “cardio” and resistance training in one. No drawbacks.

One of my favourite sites and authors in this game is Dan John.

He is friendly, helpful and has a way with words. Most of all he is knowledgeable and shares that knowledge for FREE.

see here; Dan John website

The site is great if you want to lose fat, read about lifting heavy weights, love a good anecdote or to pick up some awesome tips.

Add muscle for performance, tone or simply to look goooood

Fri ,30/10/2009

Morning,

Why would you want to add muscle? Here is my list of great reasons;

1) Increased confidence; more muscle means more strength

2)Burn more calories throughout the day

3)Improved posture, stronger back muscles hold you upright - stand tall!

4)Perform better in your sport, the stronger sports person wins

5)Look better, a lean strong body looks better than a soft weak one.

Adding muscle and getting stronger is simple and can be had in a very short space of time. 2 - 3 short thirty minute sessions a week can have you looking awesome in no time at all.

If you don’t want to get big muscles but still want to be strong, look good and stand tall - no problem, I can do that too.

Exercise, love it when results are good

Thu ,29/10/2009

Exercise is a great thing, it makes us feel great, we have all sorts of chemicals released in ours bodies that promote the feel good factor about what we have done, and rightly so - exercise if done correctly can be a great thing indeed.

On the flip side, it can lead you to feeling frustrated and betrayed! When you work your heart out, sweat out a weeks supply of sweat, lift more and heavier than ever, run faster, row harder and fight more ferociously than you normally do but guess what, sometimes results just don’t seem to be there.

Viscous circle, you then feel you should work harder, more often and for longer. WRONG, when results are not what you want you should rest, take a week to ten days of rest and relax, after all if results aren’t as you want right now, a small rest wont make them worse will it.

Your body adapts to stress, especially if it is repetitive, it reaches a point where it no longer needs to change. resting will reset your adaptation system and allow exercise to cause results once again.

Perhaps even try something new and different after your rest.

Seek professional advice too, they may know something you don’t!

Adios for now fitness fans,
